Welcome to WCIC - Sri Lanka

The Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce

The Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Sri Lanka (WCIC) was inaugurated in 1985 by a group of entrepreneurs with a visionary mindset. Each of them were already successful in their own business ventures, together with a few professionals they created an organization which has today, reached high standards. They envisaged that the organisation could be a pivotal force in leveraging women entrepreneurs into the mainstream of business activity in the country, encouraging greater economic contribution to the country from women. Chairperson’s Message

Vision of Chairperson for 2021-2022

I am honored to be stepping in to take the reigns of this impactful Chamber, which has been moving with a clear vision and a mission making sure the stated values are upheld at all times.

The success of any endeavor is based on the foundation we set and we have now got that clearly sorted. WCIC is functioning according to a well crafted strategic plan, detailing out the activity with clear responsibility being allocated to the respective pillars to work in a cohesive manner. It is heartening to see efforts of the members of the pillars , who dedicate enormous amount of time and energy to ensure our projects are well structured and executed.

Moving in to the 2021/22 period, we want our strategies to be aligned to the SDG goals. There are 17 SDG goals already identified, and most are integrated.

We have identified three areas which are directly connected to what we do.

SDG 1 - No Poverty

SDG 5 - Gender Equality

SDG 8 - Decent work and economic growth

Our efforts which target the entrepreneurs and professional women, has our strategies very much aligned to the identified SDGs. We believe focusing and aligning on these SDGs will provide us greater opportunity to collaborate with many other organizations.

I am personally looking forward to a very progressive year , which will enhance the equity of the Brand WCIC even more. Of course our success will depend on the efforts of the Board, Pillar teams and the members at large. We need to ensure that all energies are synergized to get the maximum benefits where the Chamber will contribute to the growth of the economy in a positive manner.
